American YouthWorks is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Austin, Texas that is dedicated to empowering youth through education and green jobs training. We operate a public charter high school, a GED program, and three green jobs training programs: Casa Verde Builders, Environmental Corps, and Computer Corps.

For more than thirty years, American YouthWorks has assisted thousands of local youth in transforming their lives through community service, education, and a commitment to preserving the natural environment.

Opportunities

Tutoring
- Lend your knowledge and expertise to our students as a one-on-one tutor. Tutoring with Youthbuild is focused on the four subjects that the GED exam consists of: math, reading comprehension, social studies and science.
- Tutors are needed Monday through Friday. Tutoring shifts are generally 9am - 12pm or 1pm - 4pm.
- In-person

Students can begin earning hours as soon as the application process is complete.

Requirement Details

Volunteer Application Process:

Students will complete a 15 - 20 minute screening call with Youthbuild. A background check, including fingerprinting, will be completed afterwards. All background check costs will be covered by agency.

COVID-19 Requirements
Wondering if you should register to volunteer? Based on the CDC guidelines, we are asking you the following questions:

Have you been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? See the CDC’s risk assessment guidance.
Do you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19? Symptoms can include a cough or shortness of breath or at least two of the following: Fever, Chills, Repeated shaking with chills, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat, New loss of taste or smell. See the CDC’s symptom information.

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, we ask you not to register. We are doing all we can to align with best practices and keep our community healthy.
